There's nothing more fun than shopping for your little one, right? Of course, here it is important that you buy the right clothing size. It will be a shame if your baby has sweaters in the summer and shirts in the winter. Read on in this blog to find out what sizes fit a baby on average.
Average baby sizes
Want to stock up on clothes before your baby is born? It is of course great fun to do some shopping during your pregnancy. The average baby is about 50 cm at birth. This includes clothing size 50. For premature babies there is also a smaller size. Size 44. Between each Size is a step of 6, so 44-50-56 etc.
Of course, not every baby is the same and clothing sizes will vary. Per brand, clothing sizes are also always slightly different, to make it even more difficult for us. Tall babies can sometimes wear size 56 at birth. Always remember that a little too big is always better than too tight.
Is your baby already a month old? Then most babies switch to a larger size. Most have an average size 56 by then. Between 2 and 4 months, babies have an average of Size 62 and between 4 and 6 months Size 68. After this, your baby will grow a little slower. The advantage of this is that we can enjoy the clothes a little longer. Between 6 and 9 months a baby has an average size 74 and between 9 and 12 months size 80.
Of course, sizes vary per baby and may fall outside the average. It is therefore always advisable to take a Size larger than you had in mind.
What shoe size is right for a baby?
Baby feet, this makes everyone melt right? Not only because of those cute little toes but also because of the tiny shoes on sale. But which shoe size should we buy? Actually, babies only need shoes when they start walking. For the first year, socks or slippers are enough to keep their feet warm.
With shoes, it is even more difficult to find the right Size to choose the right one than with clothing. The sizes per child vary even more here. On average, a one-year-old child has shoe size 19, 20 or 21. It is extremely important to choose the right shoe size. If the shoe size is too large Size shoes will keep falling out and this is very uncomfortable. A too small Size will affect the development of the feet, which of course we do not want.
The moment a baby or toddler starts wearing shoes with hard soles, usually from Size 20, can also be measured in the store. That is why we want to give you the tip to take your child to the store with you, so the feet can be measured for the right shoe size.
